ÖSD Certificate B1

This modular B1 exam, developed in international cooperation, has been offered by the ÖSD since February 2013.

The Zertifikat B1 exam tests the ability to use the language independently in everyday and professional situations involving familiar topics and personal areas of interest. This exam is also offered in modules, i.e. the reading, listening, writing and speaking modules can be taken independently of each other at different times. This exam is offered for learners aged 16 and over as well as in a version for young people aged 12 to 16.

The Zertifikat B1 exam is a joint product of the ÖSD, the Goethe-Institut (GI) and the Learning and Research Center of the University of Fribourg/Switzerland and is offered worldwide by both the ÖSD and the Goethe-Institut.

Audit execution

The ÖSD B1 certificate consists of four modules: reading, listening, writing and speaking. The modules can be taken and certified individually or in combination. If all four modules are passed on one examination date, an overall certificate is issued. Exam participants also receive an overall certificate if they have taken and passed the four modules at the same examination center within one year. If individual modules are passed, a module certificate is issued for each module.

The exam is taken by two trained ÖSD examiners. They then evaluate the exam performance of the participants (see complete sheet). It is possible to view the answer and evaluation sheet on request. Here you can find the examination regulations and the implementation regulations.

It is possible to take only part of the exam.
