Integration test A1

Anyone wishing to apply for a residence permit in Austria for the first time must be able to prove German language skills at level A1. An ÖIF exam (Austrian Integration Fund) is considered proof. The A1 integration test covers language content as well as values and orientation knowledge.

The written part lasts 120 minutes (excl. 15-minute break). The oral examination is conducted as a group examination of max. 4 people and lasts about 20 minutes per group.

I need to be able to do this for the A1 integration test:

Reading comprehension
Three tasks are used to test the comprehension of different authentic simple texts from Austria, Germany and Switzerland in terms of their overall message and individual content.

Listening comprehension
Listening texts from Austria, Germany and Switzerland on everyday topics are tested in three tasks.

Writing
A form must be completed and a simple text written.
The exam has three tasks: a short introduction, a simple picture description and a role play. The examination interview is assessed according to set criteria.

Values and orientation knowledge
The exam questions on values and orientation knowledge are based on the learning objectives in the A1 framework curriculum of the ÖIF and cover central topics of daily coexistence such as education and language, work and economy, health, housing and neighborhood as well as principles and diversity of coexistence in relation to legal and cultural integration. Materials to prepare for the exam are available at www.sprachportal.at.
